Baby loves her music and shakes her booty to prove it

There's a song by ABBA that I've always felt like I could relate to..it's called, "Thank you for the music." The beginning of the song goes,

"I'm nothing special, in fact I'm a bit of a bore
If I tell a joke, you've probably heard it before
But I have a talent, a wonderful thing
cause everyone listens when I start to sing"

Not that I'm some super duper singer, but I've always felt more comfortable singing than talking to anyone one on one, or in any other social scene for that matter.

The other day while watching Mamma Mia, I heard this song again, but this time, it was the second verse that struck me. The verse describes Naomi and her incredible baby booty shaking talent and the incredible cuteness she exudes when she starts singing along with Pachebel's Canon.

"Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk
She says I could sing long before I could talk"

Don't believe me? Check out the video. You've seen her dance to MJ. Now see her move to synthesized piano music. I only hope that her love of music is something she carries with her throughout her life.

Baby Steps

Naomi took 8 steps yesterday. She walked from the kitchen table half way across our kitchen. The whole time she had the biggest smile on her face, like she was so proud of this major accomplishment. So cute. Of course she won't try to walk when I have the video camera out.

Baby loves bread

Naomi loves bread so much that she literally stuffs her face full of
bread. One of the benefits of being a baby is when you do something
like this, it's cute. If I did something like this, people would look
at me weird. Enjoy it while you can Naomi.

QuadCamera

Amy just bought this new App for our iPhones, and I gotta say I am in love with it. It is called Quad Camera and it emulates a photobooth machine taking time-lapse photos, while giving you the look of an old time camera with the high contrast and the uber-vignetting. It is very very nice. So we took Naomi to the park today to get her out of the house and I decided to take this app for a spin. Here are some of the shots we got.

Material Girl

Naomi loves her accessories. She loves wearing hats, sunglasses, bracelets and even tries putting bracelets on her feet to make ankelets. Last night she was wearing a bracelet and I took it off before we put her to sleep. She started crying and reaching for it, and when I put it back on her wrist she started bouncing and laughing. I tried to take it off one more time before she was in her crib, but she whined again, so I just let her sleep with it on. Silly girl, at least her accessories are all plastic (i.e. cheap) wait til she's older and asks daddy for some Tiffany bling.

Word of the weekend – Mommy, Mama and other derivations

This weekend, in what must have been her way of making up for non-stop whining, Naomi started saying Mommy, Mama, Meee, Maaaaa, and what even sounded like Amy. She’s said all of these words before, but has already preferred blabbering off Dadadadada. It was nice to hear, although I’m pretty sure she still doesn’t know who Mama is, but I’ll take what I can get!

Attack of the Whine

As a parent, I'm constantly overwhelmed, amazed, and simply overjoyed at all of the developments and changes I see in Naomi as I watch her grow. I've quickly come to the realization that she is no longer my little newborn baby. She won't just lie in one spot if I need to run to the bathroom. If I answer the phone, she reaches out to take it so she can "talk" too. She's developing her own personality and quickly learning what she likes and doesnt like. As she figures this out, we're starting to figure it all out with her...one of her ways of telling us she wants something or is unhappy, is her whining. This past weekend, Naomi hit her stride (so far) when it comes to whining. On Saturday morning, after waking up an hour earlier than normal, Naomi spent the entire morning fussing, crying and whining. Breakfast became a challenge of her wanting everything BUT what was being offered to her. We're trying to lay down some rules and only let her eat what's being offered, otherwise she has to wait til her next snack or meal time. Hopefully this will avoid finicky eating in the future, and get her to eat a better balance diet (there are days when all she'll eat are strawberries and goldfish..um fruits, carbs and dairy right?). As soon as our unsuccesful breakfast was over, being overly tired from not having a full night of sleep, Naomi just lost it. She was clinging to everyone, not wanting to be put down, but not wanting us to sit down either. Finally an hour before her normal nap time, we decided to her down for a nap. Sunday was equally as bad as our sunday service at church has been temporarily pushed back from 8:30 to 10am. 10am is Naomi's normal nap time. So on Sundays, for the month of August, Naomi skips one nap and ideally, takes one mega nap right after lunch. This week, I was volunteering in the nursery room, the same room Naomi happens to be in. Bad idea. Not only was she overly tired, since I was there, she was super whiny and wanted to be with me the whole morning. The worst was when another baby, who was so much smaller than Naomi, crawled over to me crying cause he wanted to be picked up, so I held him in my lap...meanwhile, Naomi who had been happily playing at this time, looked up, saw another baby in my lap, and immediately started whining. Then she crawled over, tried to shove the other kid out of my lap and squeezed in. Unsuccessful at moving him out of my lap completely, she started hitting the kid!! As my sister in law would say, "no sir" this was not allowable. So Naomi had to be picked up out of my lap and I stood up with the other child. Where did she even learn to hit!? The rest of the day didn't go smoothly either. Naomi unfortunately only took a short 1hr nap after lunch, so by 4 in the afternoon she was exhausted, cranky and super whiny. It was a long afternoon of trying to entertain her and keeping her happy. We even tried to put her down for a small cat nap at 4:30, but she ended up just playing in her crib (at least she wasn't whining!!) I'm hoping things dont get worse from here!!

First Steps and some sort of bug

I got home last night feeling pretty low. I think I'm just burnt out, but I was so tired and my throat is starting to hurt. It always makes me feel better to get home and see Naomi after a long day of work. I was late getting home though and only had an hour or so with her before I put her to bed, but it's almost like she knew I needed a pick me up! Naomi was just beyond giggly. I love when she laughs at the silliest things. I told her, "mommy is going to get some tylenol". Something about the word "tylenol" just set her off and she started laughing. Every time I repeated the word, she laughed and laughed. She startd laughing again when Austin came home and we were putting her down to bed. Every time Austin or I leaned in to give her a kiss she started laughing that deep, giggly, baby laugh. Like the ones you see on commercial. Too cute. Definitely the pick me up I needed after a long day of work when I felt like I was coming down with something. Her laughter is just simply contagious.

In the hour that she was awake while I was home, Naomi also decided it was time to take her first steps. Granted it was only 3 steps before she fell on her butt, and perhaps it was really more of a stumble than anything intentional, it was still exciting to see.
