A spoonful of sugar....

Doesn't always work.
Naomi has a double ear infection and possibly the start of an eye infection. We have to give her antibiotics 2x a day for 10 days and 2 eye drops 4x a day for 5 days. Have I told you Naomi's a stubborn child (doesn't get this from me, I swear). No Matter what we try, she refuses to take her antibiotics and screams like a crazy person when we do her eye drops. We're only on our 3rd day. Sigh. I've tried everything, bribery, threats to go back to the doctor or to take away her toys and desserts etc, even mixing it in with her milk. We also took the medicine back to Target to have it flavored with Strawberry. Nothing works. The most success we have is putting the medicine in her milk where she'll guzzle it down a little, then realize something is in her milk (she claims someone put an ice cream in her milk), and refuses to drink cause it's yucky.
Hopefully she's getting enough in her...for the little amount of medicine that IS getting in her, it's wrecking havoc on her digestive system. After only two days of medicine, she's already got major diarrhea, and since she's at daycare where they can't always catch it right away, she's gotten a pretty nasty diaper rash. So now on top of all the medicine, we're trying to give her probiotics to equalize her system.

Come on scientists and doctors. Can't you figure out a better way to get antibiotics into my two year old!?

Because...

Today was my first day back at work after the 2.5 week vacation. Last night after dinner, as we were getting ready to put Naomi to bed, I started to cry as I thought about having to go back to work and not getting to see Naomi during the day. Naomi, came over to me and gave me the sweetest hug, wiped my tears and said, "mommy, don't cry, because I'm right here!!" And the rest of the night she proceeded to hold my hand, hug me, and make sure I followed her wherever she went. If I wasn't right next to her she'd call out, "mommy!! come here! come here!" Definitely something I want to remember. (I wouldn't mind forgetting the bit where she threw a fit right before lights out cause she wanted to bring her toy stroller into bed with her and was told strollers dont belong in beds). sidenote: "because" is the new word of the week. She's just figured out to use the word, and uses it literally every chance she can. Yesterday afternoon she said she was coloring the monkey ho-ho green because he's naked. And the other night, her tongue was blue, because she had a popsicle. =)

And We're Back

We're back from Massachusetts. We got back Tuesday night and have been having fun hanging out in the good ol Jersey. We spent a week in Nantucket, and 4 days in Harvard, MA with Austin's family.
On our second to last day in Nantucket, Naomi declared she wanted to go home and was going upstairs to "pack her stuff". This is what I found when I went upstairs a few minutes later....

Chugging along

Despite it being summer, the past month has been CRAZY busy at work. With everyone taking time off, I've had to do so much extra work, and have been getting home later and more tired than usual.
Plus our weekends provided no downtime as we have had a packed schedule with birthdays, travelling, guests, you name it.
Today's my last day of work before I go on vacation though, and BOY do I need it. I haven't even started packing, but thankfully my boss gave me tomorrow off (I think it was a pity day since literally you can see the bags under my eyes, and my usual race across the trading floor has become a slow meander thanks to the exhaustion and widening belly). So tomorrow I plan on packing, grabbing some last minute things for the trip, including groceries!
Yes we are driving to Hyannis to catch a Ferry to Nantucket...yes we are basically tracking Hurricane Earl, which is now a category 4 hurricane headed straight towards Nantucket. Hopefully we'll miss it by a day though and our trip won't get affected, but who knows. Regardless, we were told to bring basic supplies like milk, bread snacks etc, both for in case we get stranded in Hyanis with no grocery stores open, or if we make it onto the island and they do cancel the Ferry's while we're out there...."island living" we were told.
Regardless, I'm excited to be off from work, spending time with the fam.

Small Victories

For the first time in a long while, I got home from work and picking up Naomi, and cooked dinner from scratch. No leftovers, no takeout, Austin didn't have to do it. It was simple, just chinese bok choy and jia jiang mien, but STILL I did it. lol. and made enough so we have leftovers tonight.
